The Temple Of Baal Is Not Coming To New York City
If you know anything about the Old Testament, you know that one of Israel’s primary rivals came from those who worshiped the false god, Baal. The most famous story about Israel and Baal came when the prophet Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel in I Kings 18, and won, incidentally. But their continuous refusal to denounce and have nothing to do with Baal worship cost Israel dearly over the years. God would punish them for it, they would seemingly repent, but before long they were right back at it. We have become so spiritually blind in America today that even people in the church think they can do evil and God not punish them for it. God will always punish evil, no matter who does it! The God who declared that no other gods be put before Him, would never tolerate Baal worship among His people, not then nor now! In August of 2015, ISIS blew up a famous historical landmark in Palmyra, Syria. Much of the world recoiled in disgust at the loss of this great “cultural heritage site”, as it was called. We weren’t told much by the news media about what these ruins were, but they were none other than the Temple of Baal in Palmyra, Syria. In an attempt to “preserve history”, the reason given for doing it, on April 19, two exact replicas of the 50 foot arch that stood at the entrance to the Temple of Baal in Syria were scheduled to be erected in Times Square, in New York City, and in Trafalgar Square in London, England. Some 1,000 of these arches were then to be erected in cities all across the globe. Praise God the erection of this arch in Times Square has been cancelled! One reason for doing so was said to be the negative press this event was receiving. I’m glad I spoke out against it and this gives me some hope for America. Yet many of you reading this may not have even heard of this, or of Baal, because our pulpits are silent today on many things. The other reason cited for why it was cancelled was that it was possible enough Christians were praying against this thing that God answered our prayers. Prayer can and still does change things, you know! Whatever the reason for its cancellation, I’m glad it didn’t happen, but who knows what might happen in the future! To think that we were all set to put up a monument of worship to the false god Baal in our most important city in America ought to upset every Christian reading this. It should go without saying that Baal worship is definitely not something we should want to celebrate here in America. Baal worship involved all kinds of deviate public sex, including men with men, and the killing of babies as human sacrifices to Baal. And where do you think some elements of rock music got the idea of cutting themselves from? I Kings 18:28 tells us that cutting themselves was a part of their ritual to get a response from Baal. We are trying to convince ourselves that we are much more civilized in America than what they were back then, but are we really? I think not! Just like the ancient Baal worshippers, we have become a society that is addicted to watching people have sex, whether live, or on a screen, or in magazines, etc. It is even said that 68 % of men who call themselves Christians watch pornography on a regular basis. I’m sorry, but there is no way that you can stay a Christian in a right relationship with the Lord and watch pornography on a regular basis! No wonder there is so much rape, sexual violence, child molestation, etc.! And you can’t watch it without it tempting you to want to do what you’re watching! Just like the ancient Baal worshipers, we are also a society that is engaged in child sacrifice. Oh, we don’t call it that. We use a nice dressed up term—abortion, but our motives for killing our babies are the same. Since Roe vs. Wade we have sacrificed over 58,000,000 of our babies to the abortion god, far more than the blood the Baal worshipers spilled. Even though we won the battle and no monument to Baal will be erected in New York City, at least not at this time, the problem is that we are still embracing the ways of Baal as a nation. Unless we repent as a people of the killing of our babies by abortion, and turn from our addiction to watching people have every kind of deviant sex, what is going to change in America? Not much! It’s only going to get worse and we will only deserve God’s judgment more than what we already do. So, we rejoice for a moment that no Temple of Baal is going up, but there is still an enormous amount of work that needs to be done to awaken our nation to the fact that we are going down the sewer quickly, morally. I can only pray that the sheer thought of the Temple of Baal coming to America might be enough to awaken some in the church at least, out of their complacency! For others, let’s hope it awakens them out of their sound sleep!
