God Hates Lying

A few weeks ago NBC News suspended veteran news anchor, Brian Williams, for what could only be described as telling bold faced lies. That should not have come as too much of a surprise because NBC can’t be trusted to tell the truth on much of anything! Williams finally admitted that he had “misspoke”, only after enough veterans who were present when Williams claimed the incident took place got fed up and refuted his claim that the Chinook helicopter he was on over Iraq in 2003 had been hit by two rockets and small arms fire. I know from experience that it’s easy to misspeak about something, or to get your details or facts mixed up, but how do you misspeak about something as major as that? The helicopter you were in was either shot down or it wasn’t, and that should have been something that you would never forget! Abraham Lincoln once said: “No man has a good enough memory to make him a successful liar.” How true that is! Beyond the 9th of the 10 Commandments declaring “Thou shalt not bear false witness” , Revelation 21:8 is as clear as can be that “all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone”. It’s safe to say that “God hates a lying tongue” , for that’s exactly what Proverbs 6:17 declares! It’s been some time since I’ve heard somebody, other than my wife Linda, say, “Liar, liar, pants on fire!” It seems like we ought to resurrect that old saying, but if we would a good part of the world would be on fire! Whatever may be said about the “old-time religion”, it was clear cut, and lying was definitely a no-no for the child of God! Now it seems like lying is just an everyday part of life for many, and that little “white lie” might even be acceptable for many who profess to know Christ. But there are no “white lies” in God’s eyes—they’re all black, and real Christians don’t lie. Yet, there are all kinds of ways we are being lied to today, and it’s becoming harder and harder to tell who is telling the truth and who isn’t. I wonder if we ever will find out who left the air out of Tom Brady’s footballs, or if somebody measured wrong, or what. Jerry Rice, who may have been the best wide receiver ever, was very critical of Tom Brady, but then he admitted that he used illegal stick-um to help him make many of his catches. What? That sounds like the pot calling the kettle black, doesn’t it? I’m sure nobody would ever lie to us in the area of politics, but think about what our president said recently. He said he believes a deal with Iran on nuclear weapons was possible because Iran’s Supreme Leader Khameini said: “It would be contrary to their faith to obtain a nuclear weapon.” Is our president that naïve that he doesn’t know that in the Islamic faith it is considered OK to lie to your enemies to get what you want? If our president really believes that he’s either dumber than I think or it’s really clear whose side he is on! We’re being lied to about Islam being a peaceful religion and that Allah and the God of the Bible are one in the same. Our kids are being lied to in school about evolution being fact, and not an unproven theory. We’re being lied to about global warming so that a global government can put a global carbon tax on us. Many in the financial community are lying to us about how secure our money is. We were lied to about Obama-Care, Bengazi, and the IRS spying on us. We’re being lied to about the influence Christians had on the founding of this land. We’re being lied to about GMO’s in our food. We’re being lied to about gun violence so that the UN can disarm us. We’re being lied to and told that religion is the cause of most wars. No it’s not—it’s politics! We’re being lied to by many in the church today telling us that God is OK with homosexuality and that it’s normal. That sure isn’t what my Bible says! Employers lie to their employees and vice versa. Husbands lie to their wives and wives to their husbands. Children lie to their parents and even parents to their children. Even pastors lie to their churches by not preaching the truth that the Bible declares. Many even stand in front of a church and God and say, “I do” , or “I will”, and then they don’t. Come to think of it, I can’t think of too many areas today where we’re not being lied to in some way! One thing I’m certain of; real Christians don’t lie or stretch the truth on purpose because the definition of lying is to make an untrue statement with the intent to deceive! It sounds almost like we’ve become a nation of liars. Yet God declares in no uncertain terms that He hates lying and that “all liars shall have their part in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone” , and folks, that’s no lie! Rev.
